JoVE Science Education and Developmental Biology now available

We now have access to two new collections in JoVE, the world's first peer-reviewed scientific video journal.
  • Developmental Biology - like the other JoVE modules, this features video articles describing the latest research methods in the field of developmental biology, allowing researchers to keep up to date with and reproduce new experimental procedures.
  • Science Education Database - features collections of instructional videos designed to help students learn basic laboratory techniques.  Each video is paired with additional video resources demonstrating practical applications of the technique and other complementary skills.  Science Education covers 6 key areas:
    • General laboratory techniques
    • Basic methods in cellular and molecular biology
    • Essentials of Biology
    • Essentials of neuroscience
    • Essentials of developmental biology
    • Essentials of behavioural science

JoVE now available as an app

The Journal of Visualised Experiments (JoVE) is is the world's first peer reviewed scientific video journal.  JoVE publishes video articles detailing experimental methods and lab techniques in the life sciences, as well as in physical, applied and behavioural science.

In addition to accessing JoVE via StarPlus, University of Sheffield members can now view JoVE videos on their iPhone, Android, tablet or other mobile device.  To download JoVE Mobile, search for 'JoVE' in the Apple app store or on Google Play.

This resource provides access to online seminar style talks by experts in the field of biomedical and life sciences.

Workshop for Science PhD researchers

Searching for researching your first independent project: hands-on workshop

Do you need to find literature for your first independent research project? Not sure where to start? Tried searching but retrieving too many or too few results? Then come along to a hands-on Searching for Researching workshop at 301: Student Skills and Development Centre.

Run by the University Library, this workshop will show you how to find the best resources for your first research project. You will learn about different information sources and how to create an effective search strategy to produce a manageable set of relevant results. You will also consider evaluating information, referencing and plagiarism - making sure you use your own ideas and reference the work of others properly.

Now you can! Through StarPlus you can now access the SAE Digital Library. 

Use it to find current and historical standards, technical papers, reports and e-books on a variety of topics including manufacturing, materials, fuels and energy sources across the aerospace, automotive and commercial vehicle sectors.

Through the SAE Digital Library you can access:
  • Current and historical aerospace material specifications
  • Current and historical aerospace standards
  • Current and historical ground vehicle standards
  • Current and historical USCAR reports
  • SAE e-books
  • Selected journal articles from 1998 to the present
