Chemical Database Service

The National Chemical Database Service from the Royal Society of Chemistry offers access to a suite of commercial databases and resources.  All University of Sheffield members are entitled to access the range of resources they provide (either on-campus, or via StarPlus if off campus).

Construction & Manufacturing standards published in BSOL

The following new and revised standards have recently been published. You can view the full text standards using British Standards Online (BSOL).

BS 7913:2013 - Guide to the conservation of historic buildings
Describes best practice in the management and treatment of historic buildings

BS 7000-4:2013 - Design Management Systems: Guide to managing design in construction
This revision updates the standard to reflect new key factors in design management - collaborative working, new technologies, the effect of construction procurement, roles & responsibilities

BS EN 1838:2013 - Lighting applications. Emergency lighting
A new European Standards that specifies the luminous requirements for emergency escape lighting and standby lighting systems where required

BS EN 206:2013 - Concrete. Specification, performance, production and conformity
European standard that applies to concrete for structures cast in situ, precast structures, and structural precast products

How to access BSOL:
Log into MUSE and click My services
Click StarPlus, Library catalogue
Click Sign In as "University Member"
Search for British Standards Online using the University Collections Search
Locate BSOL in your results and click "View Online" and "Open source in a new window"
Use the quick link on the right side of the screen to access BSOL

JoVE: Journal of Visualised Experiments

The University now has access to JoVE, the Journal of Visualized Experiments

JoVE, is the world's first peer reviewed scientific video journal.  It publishes scientific research in a video format to help researchers share and learn new experimental techniques.

JoVE allows you to search for and view videos detailing experimental methods in the following categories:

Web of Knowledge Upgrade 12th-13th January

Web of Knowledge is changing.  Thompson Reuters will be upgrading the database this weekend  to provide a more intuitive, streamlined search experience.  They have also changed the name from Web of Knowledge to Web of Science.

Web of Knowledge may not be available intermittently from 2:00 pm on 12 January 2014 until 2:00 am on 13 January 2014. Thomson Reuters apologise for any inconvenience.

Scopus now indexed in Primo Central

Records from Scopus are now included in your Primo Central searches in StarPlus.  When you search the Articles and Databases tab in StarPlus, Scopus articles will now be included in your search results.

Scopus is a database of peer-reviewed literature which offers an overview of international research in the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and arts and humanities.

You can also access Scopus directly via StarPlus.
